About Department

Introduction:

The Department of Architecture, established in 1995, is the oldest architecture department in the MP state and is consistently ranked as one of the top programs in the state.

It is a place where the individual creativity of a student can be cultivated and nurtured in a framework that is humanistically, socially, and environmentally responsible.

The Department offers the diploma program in the area of Architectural & Interior Design.

Notable strengths of the department that cut across the discipline groups are our devoted teaching, the grounding of architecture in both social and material issues, interdisciplinary nature, and the remarkable faculty, students, teaching.

Over the course of three years’ diploma course, students will cover subjects including Auto CAD, history of design, scaling, elevations, effects of colors, furniture design, various fixtures, landscaping, retrofit and other related subjects. Also, students are encouraged to implement their design ideas in models.

Inception:

The Department of Architecture & Interior Design was incepted in the year 1995 as a part of the then Government Women’s Polytechnic College Sagar (MP), with a modest intake of 30.

Activities:

Laboratories:

  • MODEL MAKING WORKSHOP: Students are encouraged to make scaled models of their projects, using various materials like wood, Plaster of Paris, acrylic sheets, etc., which help them in understanding the structural and aesthetic values of their designs.

  • COMPUTER LABORATORY: The computer laboratory, equipped with broadband internet facility in the Department introduces the students to the modern methods of developing models and drawings, with the help of modern software such as AutoCAD, 3D Max, Revit etc.

  • ARCHITECTURE LIBRARY: The library of the Department houses a variety of books, journals, and magazines related to Architecture and topics associated with it to keep the students updated with the world of architecture. It also has a good amount of archives of the students' works done so far and E-Library also has been set up earlier.

  • SURVEY LABORATORY: The laboratory has all the equipment to give the practical exposure of field survey and leveling to the students. This helps the students to gain knowledge of fieldwork, a layout of buildings and preparation of measured drawings.

  • EXHIBITION: There is a permanent Exhibition space in the Department where student’s works are exhibited. The works showcased primarily consist of D. Arch. thesis works and exemplary works of students. This acts as a source of inspiration to the students in pursuit of their creative Endeavour.

Events:

  • The Department organizes a seminar, workshops and expert lecture from eminent academicians and practicing architects to keep pace with the changing scenario in the field.

  • The alumni meet are held in the department from time to time. Active participation and interaction between the alumni and the current students are encouraged.

  • The department also organizes educational tours for the students as a part of the academic curriculum to give the students an exposure to various architectural achievements, both historical and modern, that helps them to understand the subject in a better manner.
